the moment of recognition -- dude tears the bread and says a few words and Pow! the others recognize him, they startle back in their chairs, fuckin'-A, I thought you were dead!

does anybody paint that moment of recognition better than Rembrandt?

everybody has their moment at Emmaus, not necessarily religious, just that moment, that moment when suddenly -- you know.

the other night, drifting off to sleep, my grandma was there, and then my childhood friend Peter T.'s mom, whom I loved and who died some years ago, and then Peter's sister who also died, and I was anxious for some wisdom from the dead beloved, but there was none, no words anyway, except that, I realized later, except that we had loved each other.
