Max Roach has died at the age of 83.
I saw him about 20 years ago with his percussion ensemble MBoom at the Chicago Jazz Fest at Grant Park. A wonderful, amazing show by a wonderful, amazing musician leading a unique, great band.
He brought melody to jazz drumming.
RIP.
